cLICKING NOISE

Hi all,

Ihave mountaineer 2002 AWD V8 , the problem I am facing is when
I am accelarating I hear clicking noise in the front tire driver side.
The noise is random and it goes away when the speed is more than 30-40.

the noise also come when in reverse while turning the car.

Please help to resolve the issue because every mechanic tells me diffrent story.

To help us help you, would you mind posting what the other technicians have suggested the problem may be? They may all be different words for the same issue.

I have the same problem with my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer V6 AWD. I took it to a mechanic and they said it could be the transfer case but did not take the tire off to check though. I am going to take it some more places and see what they have to say.

I'd definitely suggest you take it some more places. If your Mountaineer truly is an AWD, you don't have a transfer case but rather a center viscous coupling unit (VCU). Pulling a tire will not help gain access to the VCU, or a transfer case for that fact.

Are you sure that is what they said? Maybe they suggested the problem may be a wheel bearing or front differential?

That's what the guy said at the Goodyear store and that it would be$2600 to repair.:screwy:

I took my truck to another mechanic and after telling him about the clicking noise he was thinking it was the transfer case also. After jacking the truck and following the noise he replaced the drive shaft and the truck has been running great so far. Instead of $2600 it was $422 WHEW!!!!
