I've recommended Crutchfield to my friends. Been doing business with them over 20 years now. www.crutchfield.com great customer service and informative catalogs.

crutchfield - great service, easy to deal with, usually sells at or near MSRP (means they are the most expensive place)
woofers etc. - caries a lot of hard to find stuff, pretty good price, I have had all good experiences so far, most of the stuff they sell des NOT have a factory warranty - they do heir own warranty stuff.

the only thing i noticed about woofer etc that might be shady is us amps for this one reason. Flakko on SSA forum said that us amps made it so that no company is to sell anything but the exterminator series online. but then again i think jl said that same thing

I like ebay for most mainstream stuff, usually about 2/3-1/2 the cost of what retail is. Alot of people dont like ebay cause of the horror stories but there are plenty of good stores on there.

makes you wonder just what the profit margin on some of this stuff really is.

From what I've seen, alot of stuff goes at a 50% markup at alot of places

the brick and mortar places have a much higher overhead. If they play their cards right they can actually sell stuff for more than what the internet is selling them for. The biggest selling point is competent installers .... unfortunately it's where all too many places fall short.

:1: on crutchfield. Excellent place to do research and learn about audio. And you will not find anyone with better customer service and return policies. Yes they are one of the highest on the block, but they give free stuff for certain products and are very informative so it's worth it a lot of times. Their shipping used to be a little more quicker (3 day shipping standard) then they charged a little extra for that, now they got free shipping on a good portion of products. I usually recommend crutchfield to newbies/first timers who don't know what/where to get the proper gear for that first car setup. I only shop there when i'm really lazy just cuz they give you wiring harness, brackets, instructions for free and they let you know what other stuff you'll need or will help (i.e., they do their homework). My dad has purchased car and home audio from them for many many years. They do have decent deals on occasion though. I got my current panasonic deck from them a year or so ago and is an 04 model they were clearing out. 250 bucks shipping included for a close to 400 buck deck. Got it in 3 days.
Ebay is a really really good source for just about anything let alone car audio. I'll definitely pick up a Type-R there in the next coming weeks. You just need to be a smart shopper there, that's all.

You aint lying, i got my girls deck for 218 shipped, we went to CC a month later and the exact same deck was 450, and it came from PA which is right next to us (above us), had it in two days.
I just ordered an xm direct/terk kit for her car from cardomain, il let you all know how that goes, they where the same price as crutchfield with 2 day shipping.

car domain is a good place too.
shipping some times can take long though but they usally tell you if they are out or are getting it soon. like it took 2 weeks for a pair of $2.99 1/0 guage terminals to come.
