Fuel Pump????

I have a '93 Isuzu Rodeo w/ 131,000 miles, 5 - speed, 4 x 4. I was driving down the road when the car just died. I cranked it over and over again, and it would turn over but not run. I would pump the gas and nothing. I pushed it at about 6 mph and popped the clutch...still nothing. I did get it to move as I turned it over and gently let off the clutch while it was in gear. I turned it on and did not hear the fuel pump. Is anything else possibly wrong? I'm lost..............

If it is the FP, how difficult is it to change?
All advise is appreciated.

you can start isolating the fuel pump as the possible culprit by

1. listening to hear if it is running momentarily when you turn the key on, which you have done (but make sure that the system has had time to depressurize, otherwise it won't run even enough for you to hear.)

2. test the fuel pump relay. simplist is to swap another relay that you know is working in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment. there are many relays there that are all the same. i think you can swap the horn relay (look at it to make sure. take the fuel pump relay, put it in the horn relay slot and see if the horn works. yes? then relay is good. no? ...

put the horn relay in the fuel pump slot. fuel pump works? if not, and you know the relay is good, start checking wires and connectors. it is not unusual for the fuel pump connectors at the top of the fuel pump to become corroded and/or for the wires to come loose. get a flashlight, get a mirror, get a crooked neck and check it out.

then, and only then, if all else fails, even consider dropping the fuel tank and changing out the fuel pump. not necessarily a high-tech job, but not pleasant.
for more info, my guess is that the FAQ link at the top of the thread may have more info. also, you might consider going to www.planetisuzoo.com (http://www.planetisuzoo.com) and search for poster bendorfold and fuel pump relay. he has a couple of instructive posts with photo's that show about the fuel pump relay and how to jump the connection to test the fuel pump

that's a start

Lots of things can cause the engine to crank but not fire.

Have you ever replaced the timing belt? If it breaks the cams wont turn so wont fire.

Could be a sensor, or something else causing it to not give spark. Just have to start checking and eliminating things.
