1990 f150 5.0 engine

My 1990 f150 5.0 when starting cold it wants to die. After warm up it idles about 700rpm and runs ok. Also the oxygen sensor is a 3 wire but the female plug has 4 wires. How does one find out what the proper oxygen sensor should be? Thanks for any help.
