I can't rightly remember, so I must ask. Do you have the 8-speaker system or the 10-speaker system? If it's the 8-speaker, then I believe there is a fuse on the back of some of the radios. Sometimes the electronics in the audio output of the radio itself will fizzle out...if you had the radio checked out, did you mean to say that the sound output still works?
If it's the 10-speaker system (which I believe was only an option on the 750's but I can't remember), you have an amp in the trunk, on the left hand side behind the panelling. Perhaps this has gone to the dogs. I don't know if there is (I only have the 8-speaker system on my 750), but check the fuses on the amp if there is any. Also any connections on the amp as well as they MIGHT have wriggled loose. Getting a new amp from the dealership will cost about $400 US and will have to be on back order from Germany, but will probably last you another 20 years if/when you get it.
You can find used amps on Ebay but finding one on the US or Canadian Ebay is near impossible...I've had more success on German Ebay so you'll have to go to the German Ebay and enter in some German words (which I can't remember at this moment) to search for the amp...
If you have more info or more troubleshooting steps you have performed, let us know. I have to be going away for three or so days, so if I don't reply, that's why, but I'm more than happy to help you out, as I've done some work on my 750's sound system. 'Bear' seems to know a bit about our cars so maybe he'll be along shortly.
The only other suggestion I have is if you have access to a second radio unit, temporarily swap it out just to see if it's the headunit or not...
