Tamiya GT2 progress pics

I have built a lot of aircraft and armour models but this is my first attempt at a car.
Unfortunatly I am allergic to most spray cans, they give me a huge head ache that can last a few days. Doctor says is something in the propellant and its not unusual so its an airbrush all the way for me.

I have just finished the firsy coat of primer (Mr Surfacer 1000) and have rubbed it back with 0000 steel wool. I find steel wool to be great for rubbing paint back but you dont often here of people using it.

Everything has been airbrushed with a Pasche VL for the acrilics and a an old Aztec 470 for the metalizers and primer. I hate the Aztec because its all plastic and has a terible trigger action so i just use it like a single action brush.

The body will be Tamiya blue (X4 I think)

what color is the body gonna be? and what the heck is that "zap-a-cap" stuff?

so if theres a little crack in some dried putty, that stuff will fix it?

I have never tried it ontop of putty.

Basically for small seems or fidly bits I use Zap a Gap. Just put a bit on with a tooth pic and sand in about 10 mins. If you leave it too long it gets really hard and you cant sand it. For the GT2 I used it around the air intakes on the rear wing. I dont use any kicker for the super glue as I find it smells alot, can effect the plastic and is very expensive.

For larger seems and those round derpessions (ejector pin marks I think they are called) I use Tamiya putty and sometimes I use a very thin layer of Mr Surfacer over the Tamiya putty as I find it sands to a better finish. The Mr Surfacer can shrink alot when if you put it on too think and thats why I use the Tamiya putty to fill the bulk of the problem.

Can't u wear a respirator?

Nice work so far though.

I always use a resperater when spraying anything but spray cans still make me sick. No model is worth damaging your lungs and even exposure to small amounts of chemicals over long periods can have bad effects.

I will contine to build aircraft and armour as I find cars a bit repetative and I like the history and research assosiated with military subjects.

You can kiss you aircraft and armour stuff goodbye now!! How can you say repetative when it's only your first project, and don't be fooled if you start doing race cars you're off for some historic research as well!! The number of books I collected on car history... Once you're really into you'll forget about the rest. We never say overhere, you're serial is wrong, you colour is a bit to dark, that aircraft has never flow like that etc.etc. I think that car modeling give you more freedom in your projects. I was in the military before and did aircraft modeling as well, but times have changed now.

The war is over, we're racing nowadays :D :finger: :D

this is not strictly my first car model. I also have a half finished Nissan S13 Silvia that I got about three years ago when i bought the same car. Its been sitting in its box half done since then. I guess repetative is a bit harsh. Im builing a car right now because I was getting bored with planes and tanks.

I think aircraft and armour are more stimulating artistically because of the weathering and camo paterns but I cant wait to have some shinny exotic cars in the display.

Each to there own. Im certanly enjoying cars right now.
