Ok...I loved the first prototype that nissan showed. As an avid Z owner I can't help but love the new 350z but not as retro or impressive as the first version that I Saw. I'll say more about it later but I had to express my disappointment with nissan when I saw the new Infinity G35 Sport Coupe. How dare they. It just lessened the future value of the Z!

Well, Nissan is afterall, a car company. Car companies deal with competition every day, why not compete with theselves? Considering the fact that Infiniti is made by Nissan, they dont care if they "decrease the future value of the Z" by making something like the G35 coupe.. the money all goes to the same place for them. Secondly, I think the G35 coupe is a really good idea even though I happen to favor the Z. The Infiniti gives people who need more room and functionality (adults with children for example..) the chance to own a car with a pricy/reputable name badge yet drive something fun and performance based that has a very sleek, sporty look to it. It has a backseat... its an Infiniti.. some people just want that sort of thing. While I do wish it looked a little less like the Z thats part of the car world.. ever noticed how much some Lxus and Mercedes look the same? Ever noticed how the new Mercedes sedans all favor each other very very much? Its all part of the game! Dont hate tha playa.. hate tha game.....
Also, I dont think an Infiniti can decrease the value of the Z.. the value is in the eye of the beholder. Years down the road, a person who wants a classic Z car will have his or her mind made up that they want the Z.. its seriously doubtful that they'd change their mind and go for an Infiniti (that in my humble opinion will never be a classic...). No worries mate!

Inresponse to Vroomgal, you have some valid points (I think:confused: ) Lexus spent the money and came out with a jewel of a car (the sc 430) with out having to borrow the body of another car. Nissan takes the cheaper way out (hating the "Playa") and uses the 350z platform. Now thats been done since the 50's but always with standard sedans and trucks. The mid range (Supra's Z's etc.. ) to high end sport cars have always stayed true and pure. I believe that with the come back of a classis like the Z you have to follow simple rules in order to keep it that much more speacial to it's loyal admires.
I get a nice feeling going down the road in my '94 300zx. There are very few in Orlando and people notice and admire it's lines. I would not feel the same if there were many like it and most were ...let's say...Infinity G30 SC. I know the sales for the G35 SC will out way the 350z becouse it is more practical and apeals to the business man..with kids. There for it will lesson the apeal and vale....love of the Z.:(

:) When I saw the new 350Z I thought I had seen the most beautiful
sports car that came out the auto shows for a long time. Then Infinity
puts out the stunning looking G35 SC, what a great looking car, and
performance wise is not much differerent than the new 350Z.
It looks better and performs similarly to 2 and 3 times priced exotic
cars from Italy, England and Germany.
Who cares that G35 SC shares the FM platform with the 350Z, specially
if the result is going to be of the best sports coupe on the road.
Cudos to Infinity/Nissan for its latest auto editions.

Decisions, decisions...
Morgage the house, extend the garage and buy both.

I think it looks tight, I would definitely take it over the Z based on looks alone. I'd also take it over the Z for the service you get from Infiniti is better than Nissan and also for the fact that you have an upscale (luxury nameplate).
Don't get me wrong, the Z is tight but for the money I'd go with the G35 coupe.
