Completed: Tamiya 1/12 Scale Porsche 935 Turbo - Warning - Lot of Images

Some of you may remember this from my WIP a while back (a long time ago  ). Anyway, I completed this about 8 months ago and I'm finally getting around to taking some pictures of it. Taking pictures of a 12th scale model really makes me realize how much I need a better camera.
My intentions with this model were:1) To build a model now that I tried to build years ago and failed miserably at, and 2) To take what Tamiya gives us and try to do the best I could with it.
However, I did add some extra wiring and hoses, I did modify some of the kit parts and I used a lot of dry brushing, washes and texturing of plastic parts and I even made a few parts like the window net and rear window braces, I even made working hood pin latches with a pin and overlapping ring but they are a pain in the A** to put on and take off so they aren't shown in these pictures. I painted with colors/finishes that I thought looked more realistic than the recommended Tamiya paint colors referred to in the instructions. My reference, for the most part, was SMS Photo CD of the 935 along with what I could find on the internet.
It's not the most detailed model ever built of this car and there are some things I would do differently if I ever built it again but I must admit, that overall, I'm pretty danged happy with this build.
Thanks for looking...

Most excellent Sir. The details, the paint, the photography, everything! :)
Those working hood latches sound interesting...
I'm looking forward to building this kit some time when I have a year or two spare. :)

Sometimes we say that a model looks like a 1/1 car, but in this case, the car is so great that we just have to turn on the engine to be a real car. Congratulations!

I can't imagine that the addition of any more details would really bring that much more to it - it looks fantastic! The detailing you have done is incredible, and the build is perfect! It's very rare to see such a well built, clean model. Very impressed! Fantastic work!

Great car pictures! Can't wait to see pictures of the model.
Wait...Shit...that is the model?!? Incredible.
I've always wanted to use one of these. ->:eek2: Seems appropriate here.
Taking pictures of a 12th scale model really makes me
realize how much I need a better camera.
Um, I don't understand this part, though. Your pictures look great. You just have to stand back further than a 1/24 model, right? My personal experience has been the equipment behind the camera is usually the limiting factor, not the camera itself.
Great work!!

Thanks everyone. This really was a fun car to build.
I think if I did it again the main things I would change are:
1. A different method to attach the body to the chassis other than those big ugly screws under the doors.
2. I would replace the kit glass in the doors.
3. I would thin the plastic in the front fenders so it doesn't look so thick at the vents.
4. Create a more realistic hub for the wheels to attach to, including a threaded center wheel nut.
There are many things a person could do to this model if you're willing to spend the time and put forth the effort to do them.

No, no, no.
You can't leave us hanging now. You gotta show us those working hood pins. And how did you attached them to the car?
Great build by the way.

LOL... the working hood pins were not anything all that amazing. A simple sliver of meterial, sawed with a razor saw, from the end of a piece of aluminum tubing... that makes the ring. Then, a piece of wire bent and looped around that ring allowing the ring to swing freely within the wire loop. Stick the straight end of the wire through the hood pin, made from a needle, and flip the ring (made from the aluminum tubing) over the hood pin to "lock" it in place. (of course it's not really locked it's just sitting there).
I'll take a pic in the next couple of days.

This is a beautiful build. Despite being considerably less than "professional" myself, I generally try to offer a little constructive criticism among the general "awesome" and "holy cow" posts. However, I can't think of anything wrong with this--it looks great. I know you did a lot of detail work, but it looks like Tamiya put together a pretty nice set of parts, too. I will look forward to seeing more of your work!
