Power Steering Pump Fluid Venting:

Oldsmobile 57

I have a classic 1957 Oldsmobile and while driving at highway speeds 65 to 70 mph the power steering fluid vents out large amounts of fluid through the the power steering pump vent bolt which is used to hold on the reserviour cover.

Any ideas why?:banghead:

Good chance it is overfilled, I assume you are using the proper fluid, which is not modern p/s fluid.

Thanks for the reply. The fluid level is not above the fill line. However I do not know it the fluid level should be checked with the engine hot while running or with the engine hot and not running. I am using Type A Transmission Fluid as was required for that year of vehicle.

Check it off, preferrably cold.
