99 contour.... HELP

My 99 Contour (6cyl, 5 speed, Sport Model, NO anti-lock brakes) is with a mechanic (has been for 6 weeks) Problem: replace passenger side wheel bearing assy.

So far: Replaced.... Nuckle hub assy, cv joint, ball joint, lower tie rod end and brake hose.

Relsult: Brakes soft, steering loose, transmission now hesitates and "klunks into each gear after shifting! He seems to be stumped. And I need my car! Help! any ideas......
