Cracked Air Duct E36

I noticed a crack in an air duct hose that goes from the grille to what looks like the back of the alternator. I take it this is a cooling duct but what is it called and should I be immediately freaking out to get it fixed.
If you know its official name, I'd appreciate it, so I could order one.
Oh, BTW is it a DIY job?
