Does anyone know if a engine block will crack if it overheats for a short time. I replaced a gasket and still am not gettiing the car to run. I didn't get the heads checked at all, but if the block s cracked I won't need to unbolt anything. The engine is a 3.1 Multi port, 92 grand prix. I'm assuming it takes a while befoe the engine block will crack due to heat. Also if it is cracked where could I look to see it. thanks

Usually the heads will crack before the block especially when the heads are aluminum and the block is cast iron. I would have the cooling system pressure tested. This should show any leaks coming from the engine as it will build pressure inside the block and heads and the leak should show up. They can also add a die the will glow under UV light that should give you a good indication where the leak is.
