Nissan employees leaked some info...much to the dismay of them, and the general populace. Still to be determined is if the leak was set up by Nissan...or a true leak. It did contain some extraordinarily dissapointing information. First the image....
Second...the engine will be a 3.5L V6 DOHC TT. Output of 380ps (almost the same when converted to HP) but will be A HYBRID ENGINE!
HERE'S THE KICKER! The 4wd design at this time is a joint venture with Honda (the system was developed by Honda). The front wheels will be powered by in-wheel electric motors, while the rear wheels will be driven by the engine.
On top of everything else...starting Sep 2002, new emissions standards in Japan may prevent further sales of the R34 engine...
Also...the R series will be dropped as it is a remnant of Skyline.
And the estimated price?.....8.2 million yen (75 thousand USD).
...I wish I were sensationalizing. Here's the pics from the article (which also include info on the New NSX and 5000GT

Here's the pics provided in the article.
By the way...the NSX is a 4.2L V8 w/ i-VTEC
and the Toyo 5000GT is a 360 ps 5l V12 (NA)

Also...the Supra is evolving (don't know if the name will keep) but it will be a 4.3l V8 @ 280PS. It's a big pic to post....but it looks like a new Celica with the side scoop of a Modena, flared fenders and a Corvette a*s with a Type R spoiler on top......how's that for a picture in your head!

Sorry but I don't like the way the 35 look! It just does not have the "fuck you" line anymore! It looks gay! (no offence to all gays though). And what about the hybrid engine? Can GTR2.7L explain please? 3.5litre TT sounds good and promising though. And what about this 4wd joint ventured with Honda? Front wheel powered by motor?

Guys its better than the sedan right?

Gtr2.7L The car in the mag its the SKYLINE right?Well in the pics where it shows the inside of the car is it a rear Engine(MR)???Thats one bad looken car but it will look better if it had Veilside parts or HKS!!

Sorry...didn't mean to start the confusion...the GTR is the dark blue/black ride in the second post (the bottom car).....the magazine cover is the new NSX. (looks a bit like the Maranello me thinks).

The best I could take from the article is that the electric motors are in the front wheels (no drive shafts), and they react faster than Nissan could get the Attessa-Pro to work....that's the best I can give you right now.

It's a damn shame, now we can't even get that. I really hope it is just a rumor. However, I might think it is credible. I read another thread in here about Carlos Ghosn, the new president or ceo or what have you that is running Nissan. He's making a lot of changes and it seems feasible that if something might flop, he'll stop it from happening. It's still a shame though.

I'm both happy and sad. Happy for the cars and sad for the body of the new Skyline or whatever they are calling it... NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

R35
09-18-2001, 05:48 PM
The good part may be taht the info here about the NSX is an old rumor that has been going around in the NSX groups. From what I remember there was and still is talk about a V8 engine with electirc motors for the two front wheels. Nothing new there, just a rumour.

Now as for this new one, Nissan and Honda working together?! Sort of a Chevy/Ford to design new Viper story. Not sure how much of that we can believe:) That's the good news.

However I keep seeing that body style pop up in web sites and magazines everywhere so we may at least be looking at what the R35 will look like:confused: If you like it, great. If you don't, oh well.

I sure hope the stats turn out to be wrong:mad:

R35, I couldn't quite understand which cars you were talking about when.....but......the motors in the front wheels is the first time I have EVER heard about putting a hybrid engine in a GTR. Honda wants Nissan to use the technology in their car to gain it's popularity before they put it in their own (Honda doesn't sell nearly what Nissan does over here).

First off a BIG welcome to AF to SKYLINE_95:D

Now regards to my earlier post. Gtr2.7L, I was talking about the NSX and how there has been a rumor from about a month and a half ago (I think  ). The rumor goes that the "next" NSX will have a V8 engine in the back and two small electric motors up front. Same as the one in the article that you posted.

The NSX guy's are just like us, they love their car and have been (again just like us) drooling over every little rumor that has been posted somewhere.

Now how true is this magazine info? Until WE hear 100% from Nissan I say relax everyone and wait. No point in getting all fired up about "I like it"/"I hate it", just yet.

And back to our new friend Skyline_95, notice the link you posted is from a fan site? Well calling the R34 "bland" should be the first hint:rolleyes: Good reading, but in the end still not Official Nissan info.

Till then I say we all keep hoping Nissan does us proud.

hahah i really doubt it..... if the present NSX isn't worth the price (with performance) and Acura knows this
why would they make it worse? that doesn't even make sense, what cars have you seen the don't progress but get worse

R35

"what cars have you seen the don't progress but get worse"

Well I could name a few, but that would only hurt someone's feelings and start up another childish flame war:flamer:

However I have also heard that Honda would come out with a "cheaper" NSX still a V6 with a new body etc. etc. and also build a MONSTER NSX (funny if they called it an NSX GT-Type R :lol2: )

Of course in the end this is all rumor's and specualations so who knows:confused:

I just wish we had at least a DATE from Nissan saying when they will release news on the new GT-R. At least that way would something to look forward too:D

What do you do if you are Nissan and you have one of the most highly regarded cars on the planet? Make it better! That is exactly what Nissan is doing by producing the new R35 Nissan Skyline GT-R. One of the weak points of the R34 Skyline GT-R has always been its rather bland styling. With the new R35 Nissan is making an effort to try and change that. The front end of the car is still fairly similar to the R34, but the rear end is different. Hopefully there will be more styling changes on the way because in terms of style, the R35 is still way behind the Z32 300ZX Fairlady Z.
It isn't just the styling that Nissan is changing for the new GT-R, because the new version will get a new engine as well. Are you surprised? Yes, I am too. The RB26DETT engine currently used in the R34 is extremely potent, and the engine is very high tech. Just knowing that Nissan is leaving the RB-series engine out of the GT-R tells you that they are replacing it with something extremely good. In the Japanese market, the VQ33DDTT engine will be used. This engine is a 3.3 liter V6 featuring direct injection and is twin-turbocharged. What does direct injection plus twin-turbochargers equal? You guessed it, mountains of horsepower. The twin-turbocharged VQ-engine will pump out as much as 450 hp. For those of you that are wondering, Nissan will be breaking the voluntary limit of 280 hp that is set in Japan. For export, Nissan will be using a different engine. It is rumored that the new GT-R for export will use a 3.5 or 4.0 liter V8 engine. This V8 will probably be in the same series as the 2002 Infiniti Q45, the ZH-series. While this engine may not be as potent as the VQ33DDTT, it will still provide plenty of muscle.
With the RB26DETT not being used in the R35 GT-R, another question drifts into my mind? Will Nissan bring the R35 Nissan Skyline GT-R to North America? The reason why the GT-R has not been brought over to the States previously is because the RB26DETT can not be converted to left hand drive. Without the RB-engine, that problem is no longer existent. The GT-R could be brought to America as the Infiniti R35 and compete with the Acura NSX. The GT-R would also be able to promote Infiniti Racing to the public.
With the new R35 Skyline GT-R as the flagship, and the Z and Silvia at its side, Nissan will speed into the next millenium with the finest sports cars on the planet.

What that damn thing says, sounds astoundingly good, but is half of that crap in that long ass read true. And, the new NSX looks better then the F60 ferrari thats coming out soon.

As I have been doing a lot of looking at the Skyline. It is of course the car of my dreams and since living in the U.S. I am unable to afford a $90k car.

And as I have read but cannot back up my statements the or R35 or basically the GT300 GT250 and GT250S I think it is referred to on the official nissan website will be available in the u.s. and rumor wise they will be releasing an actual GT-R version in the coming years. Supposedly 2004-05. And given that the Skyline 35 will be available in the us as the infiniti G35 we will most likely be given the wonderful privilage of having the GT-R version as well.

At the end of the day, does it even matter how it's powered?

If a car drives like a dream, looks great and can go 0-60 in 4 seconds, then I wouldn't even care if it ran on banana skins!!

The cars peformance is all that really matters, so if they are replacing the mechanical front wheel drive system for an electric one 'cos it will do the job better then fine by me.

AS long as it goes hard and beats/keeps up with NSX, Supra, RX7. and looks pretty mean then good.

If not.. sad days for Godzilla..
