Hi everyone. I own a 2001 Taurus with the Duratec motor and 111000 miles.
Recently about 50 % of the time when I am driving the btake light on the dashboard lights up and also the traction control icon. I brought it into a repair shop and they could not find any shorts, the brakes were fine, and the master cylinder was full. Does anyone have any ideas? The car rides fine when the lights are on, but I don't like having lights on. Thanks, Jerry

Check and clean the ground wire to the ABS control module. The ground wire is terminated at the front of the right front fender (passenger side). Also clean the ground to the brake fluid level switch located on the left front fender near battery. Both of those could cause the kind of intermittent problem you're seeing.

Welcome to the forum!
Was the shop able to scan the code indicated by the Traction Control light coming on? Also, was it the brake light (red) or the ABS light (amber/yellow) that came on with the traction control light?
I'd suspect that you have a faulty wheel speed sensor or tone ring. Either way, a professional scan tool with the ABS/traction control software should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi guys. Thanks for the quick suggestions. To answer your questions it is the red brake light not the abs light. And when the shop scanned the car the only reading they got was for an undervolt to pin 8 of the abs module.
They took it for 2 half hour test drives with the scanner plugged in and could not get any more information, and of course the light would not come on. I picked it up that night and the light came on before I got home. You can't win. Thanks in advance Jerry
