How do you lift the engine up about an inch to change the oil cooler line

I do not think you have to raise engine to do that.

What year make and model and what engine and transmission and type of oil filter set up?

1996 gmc jimmy 4dr 4.3 v6

Engine does not have to come up.
Removing drive shaft may help get to it.

ok i got it out but now i have a problem the dorman replacement doesn't fit like the oe one that came out because at the end where it would connect is angled different from the oe one and it won't line up. do you think it could be a manufacturing error, should i just get one from the dealer

Hard to say.
If you already have a dorman take it back and see if they have the right one.
Also some parts places can make them up for you.
Or if all else fails give you GM parts dealer your vin no and they can fix you up with the right one.

I'd suggest going with the Dormans if you can. You'll need to make sure that they gave you the right ones. There are 2 for the 4wd and 1 for the 2wd. All 3 are different, and the parts places usually aren't too concerned about giving you the right ones. I've had Advance Auto give me the wrong ones several times, and even misordered them repeatedly.

I agree. In this case getting OE may not be the best. Dorman lines seem to be better, just make sure you got the right ones.
