Charging light?

I have a 03 2500HD with the 6.6 turbo diesel. My charging warning light glows real dim even with the ignition turned off. When I set the igition key to run the light goes bright as normal, but when the engine starts returns to its dim glow:banghead:

All help and advice gratefully received

Possibly a faulty diode pack in the alternator.
