so...after about 6 months of looking.....i finally found a hatch that wasn't overpriced, a previous project gone bad, or a rustbucket.

My friend (and fellow honda fanatic) happen to ask a guy who drove up to AutoZone one day if his hatch was for sale, since he knew i was in the market for one. He said that it wasn't, but he came back a few weeks later asking for the guy who was looking to buy a hatch. Another friend at AZ got the guys number, and called me up.

After a few days of calls and checking out the car....i am the pround owner of a gold 89 hatch with 140k miles, brown interior, no rust, original owner, still has teh dealership decal on it and the service manual with the saleman's business card taped to it. its got the optional LCD clock and arm rest.

its got a radiator leak, missing the passenger seat(driver side broke, so he switched it for the passenger side), and the hatch glass is bustedout from a brick(retarded teenagers :swear: ). but for $600 (he asked for 500, i gave him an extra hundred) i am happy as a dung bettle at a pig farm .

He also threw in teh original accesories catalog he got when he bought it off the lot, so i am having fun checking out all the what we now call "rare" accessories for the 90 civic/accords.

now i just have to locate a set of seats (del sol will work right?), a hatch glass and radiator and paint the bumpers to match. then the build will begin.

Sounds great that you found such a gem man! I got lucky like you and got a very nice 91 hatch for 350. just needs paint.

Gold hathces are hot. Get yourself CRX seats and swap the pans to make em fit. Hpaha you said "otional LCD clock" I thought for a second you said "optional LSD!!" HAHA

Laguna Gold Metalic to be exact. i have no camera to take any pics with. but a friend is coming over today to work on it with me and hes got one. so i can post some pics this afternoon. i just wish i had taken some pictures before we started striping it. most of the interior is pulled and the bumper is off currently too.

trying to figure out what i can do about the interior. its dark brown seats/carpet which is ok with me. but its going to be hard to find replacement seats to match. and a new carpeting is $430 from the dealer. any ideas? i wonder how much the interior panels/dash/carpet would be from a salvage yard around here.

and this may be a stupid question but: did they make a tan interior? all i've ever seen are gray.

Not that I know of, even from dealers the only options are blue and "off black". And I have had both. If you want you can order carpet from someone like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-1991-Honda-CRX-Molded-Automobile-Carpet_W0QQitemZ300127167320QQihZ020QQcategoryZ336 97QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

No they made tan. It looks pretty good to me, at least better than blue. Im suprised your hatch didn't come with tan interior. Try rockauto.com for carpeting.

friend never came over today. so i had to use my crappy cellphone to take some pics. i got the back side panels off today after i took these pics.

the paint under the carpeting/panels is so much brighter then the outside. i love the color, so i will probly end up respraying the outside the stock color. just to bring it back to life.

BTW, i am doing all this striping to clean it up. the guy had used teh hatch to move firewood for the boyscouts, so there ws a TON of dirt, mud, barkunder the carpeting and panels. and there was glass everywhere of course too :grinyes:

IMO the OG paint looks great. Why not reliven it by polishing/ waxing? No spray job will ever be as good as your car's original factory baked paint. Sexy car btw.
