Shake rattle and roll

Hi,

I just bought a 1999 Sonata and there seems to be a problem with the steering wheel shaking on me like crazy. While driving (when the car is in motion) this problem does not occur. However when I am stopped at a red light or stop sign the steering begins to shake and vibrate A LOT!!! When this happens I put the car in neutral and the shaking stops, but the minute I put it in drive the shaking starts up (when I am at a red light.) What could be causing this problem? I was told by my mechanic that Hyundai's are cars that are known for this problem and that it is relate to the crank shaft however I have a hard time believing that the crank shaft has anything to do with the reason for the shaking.
I just installed a new output speed sensor because the car was having problems shifting between gears and the transmission would jerk the car violently. But now that the sensor has been changed the transmission seems to be just fine now. HOPEFULLY this shaking problem that I am experiencing is not something related with the transmission!
So what could be causing this problem? I am wondering if maybe the problem has to do with the timing chain? Could that be a possibility?
Also the RPM needle seems to drop below 1000rpm to about 800rpm when I am stopped at a red light, is that normal and could this be related to the shaking problem going on with the steering wheel? My engine also seems to sound more quite when I put the car in neutral when stopped at a red light then when it is in drive.

If someone can help me out I would be very happy to hear from you. I am getting all kinds of stories from different people on what the problem might be but I want to know for sure what is REALLY causing this shaking.

I have already had a lot of problems with this car and had to put in close to a thousand bucks in the first month that I bought it (considering that I just bought it a month ago!) The car dealer ripped me off becasue he lied to me about its condition. Ten minutes after I bought the car I had to buy a new alternator and battery for it because the darn thing would not start on me, then I have to buy a very expensive peice of plastic for it (a speed sensor), and now there is this problem that I have no clue in the world of what could be causing it. This car is starting to drive me nuts :runaround: because there seems to be one problem after another and another, and we all know how expensive the parts are for Hyundai's too! That is why I REALLY need to know for sure what is causing this shaking problem before I spend more money making a repair that does not solve the problem.

Thanks

Yeah,

Well I assume that no one else knew the answer to this problem that I have. So I will post the response to my question considering that maybe it may help someone else out in the future who might encounter this same issue.

Well I went to the dealership and I spoke to someone in the piece department and I was told that chances are it is may throttle sensor that needs to be changed. Because I had changed the output speed sensor for the transmission this has now caused a problem for the timing of the engine. So now the engine needs to catch up to the speed of the transmission (well that is just a simple explination on how it works.) So I will see about this in another week when I have the piece changed and I will post again to verify with you all if that was really the case concerning the shaking problem with my Hyundai.

What is your problem?

This is a post I put on this forum a LONG TIME ago! Maybe you should have checked when my post was made? I do not even own a Sonata anymore!!! That is how long it has been since this post you responded too was made!
So you think I am an idiot right? You and your ego have the right to that opinion.

By the way I feel sorry for you. It's nice to see how much of a gentleman you are by your language and the way you talk to people over the internet. It's easy to hide behind a computer screen isn't it?
Maybe this is the way you speak to your wife and the way you treat your children at home but don't think that other people, including myself, will tolerate your mouth!

So I will be the gentleman here by wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Hopefully whatever it is that you are upset about in your personal life, that caused you to respond to me like an asshole, will be resolved. I hope you have some peace in your life because by the sounds of it you are upset about something. However it is always easier to blame other people for your problems as well as it is to take your problems out on others too.

Come on, this petty attitude is something I would expect from a child and not a mature adult. Maybe instead of sending people replies on this forum that are negative and trying provoke a response you should do something productive for society such as, "getting off the internet and spending some time with your wife, your children and your love ones during this holiday season." ;) There is enough hate and negativity in this world that you can keep your hate to yourself.

Honestly, I really do wish the best for you in the New Year and hopefully you will change you mind about how you think and talk to your fellow man.

I will be sure to contact the forum manager to make a complaint about the rude and childish reply you sent. Maybe you should have read the rules and regulations of this forum???

Even though your attitude sucks I forgive you for it. I hope you start feeling better soon.
