fuel pressure

I'v read alot of posts but i want to get a better understanding

I have a 96 cutlass supreme 3100 with 72,000. In the morning or after its been sitting for a while it either wont start and i have to keep cranking it or will start and cut off sometimes it takes up to three tries to get it to finally stay running

fuel pressure is about 15 key on engine off
30 or 31 pulsatting when engine is started.
and when i unplug the fuel pressure regulator no fuel comes out. and the pressure on the guage stays at about 30 psi
I know thats low is their any other way to test the regulator or should i just get a new pump put in.

a little more information thsi seemed to start to happen right after I had my lower intakes done and the guy had wrapped on of the fuel lines around the other and caused a kink and i initially thought thats was what was causing it i got that straightened out but now it stilll does the same thing. im not sure if that would make the regulator or fuel pump fail. Thanks

Find a flexible area in the fuel return and pinch it off, not the plastic tubing though.

if you've tested and come up with low fuel pressure, first try taking the vaccume line off the regulator while your fuel pressure tester is connected. You should be a little over 40 psi. If your problem is not solved then go ahead with replacing your fuel filter, it's the cheapest thing to replace first when dealing with this kind of problem. If the filter yields no results, replace your fuel pump.

ok yea i did the fuel pressure test with the regulator hose off and it stayed at 29 30 psi even when i revved up the engine the fuel pressure still stayed the fuel filter was changed about 800 miles ago, so the pump is next i guess.
