94 camry egr system question

My 94 camry has the check engine light on and reads 3 codes: 25/26/71 (the 71 may be 72 - can't remember) I do know that last one relates to the EGR system, something I am not too familiar with. The other 2 codes involve running too rich and too lean, which seems odd, so I am suspecting a part giving out and being intermittent. I believe the front o2 sensor was changed probably 7,000 miles ago. I'll have to check.

I have looked over briefly the egr systema and nothing seems cracked or broken.

The check engine light used to come on at different times, seemingly no reason. The brake light comes on as well, at intermittent times...not sure if there is any relation.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

Your car uses the old OBDI fault reporting system. Under that system, code 25 and code 26 were catch alls for many components and system malfunctions that could effect fuel air ratio. Needs a lot of troubleshooting. The newer OBDII system broke code 25/26 into several different codes making life much easier for the mechanic. That said, you likely caught a break.

I'd bet if you fix the EGR problem, you'll fix it all. The EGR system is one of several systems in the troubleshooting tree for code 25/26. Look up your 94 factory manual in the Factory Service Manuals thread at the top of the forum. Should tell you how to test the EGR system. Are you seeing any other symptoms?

Your brake light is probably a misadjusted switch forward of the brake pedal lever.

OBTW - Recently fixed a code 25/26 on my daughters 94. Turned out to be a bad spark plug wire. It came apart when I tried to remove it. It had arced through the extender and to the spark plug tube in the head creating a miss.
