I have some great news to share. I'm going to Japan for 2 weeks on July 25. If you play nicely, I may bring you back something nice.... but probably not because it is me we're talking about.

I went to Japan a couple of years ago and had a great time. Hope you enjoy it.

not entirely true; Chinese Food outside China tend to be mainly of Cantonese origin and occasionally with some other major provinces showing up as well. Even then, it tends to be Canton region food by way of HK, it being people from HK that initially migrated to the Western countries.

It also just so happens that China being quite large, with quite a lot of people and just as many regional differences that unless you are in the big cities of Canton (or well.. HK) the "Chinese food" isn't going to be what you get in your local. Put it this way, there are areas of China who has a type of steamed bun as staple food and noodles are not common. That doesn't mean that noodles isn't real chinese food. On the other hand, there are places where there are lord knows how many types of noodles served in lord knows how many ways and that rice isn't a main staple. That doesn't mean rice isn't chinese food.

Don't base what you think chinese food is or isn't from one trip to one place.

I guarantee that my wife (who happens to be Chinese) and her family are cooking authentic Chinese food in their restaurants and at home. :grinyes:
