Radio compatibility

my 97 bonny has a cheapo sony deck in it and it sucks. I want to change to something else, or even back to stock, but not sure what will be compatible. What is compatible within the GM family of cars, just pontiac radios, or will a buick or olds stereo head unit from the same year fit? Also, is this a double din, or 1.5x din sized radio? Thanks !!

The original stock radio was a 1.5 DIN unit i believe. There is an adapter available to put any standard radio in the dash. As far as I know, you can only put the same OEM radio back in, or any aftermarket, as long as it fits.:icon16:

Thanks for the reply. What about using a CD head unit from a Chevy lumina? I looked at some on ebay, and the connectors on the rear look to be the same. If it plugs in, will it work, or is there something different with the theftlock setup? I swear when i was looking at used cars awhile ago, i saw a Pontiac Montana minivan with the chevy venture head unit installed, maybe i was just seeing things. I like the chevy one because it shows more info onscreen and doesn't look as cheapo looking as the pontiac stock one.

It might work, I just have no idea. You would have to get a wiring diagram of both radios and compare them to see if it would work.

OK, looking at the two auctions, they MIGHT be interchangeable. It looks as though the connectors are the same, but the mounting ears are slightly different between the two, which might be the killer.:evillol:
