What else creates interference?

i know the huge deal about not running the 12v and rca close to eachother. but i have them going down opposite sides of the car. what else can create engine noise in the line?

well i have newish plugs and wires. anything else that might have to do with the actual install?

running the power wire and RCA's on opposite sides has NOTHING to do with it - as you have already found out. The problem is either that you have your RCA's run near the ground point of a noisy device or you have a weak ground somewhere. Try using UTP (unsheilded twisted pair) for you RCA's - they don't pick up noise nearly as bad as normal type.

A fried alternator can cause this also.

I know you don't have a honda, but you're in a honda forum right now. There's lots of cool people there, some of them don't have hondas either, but they have cool meets and stuff.

thanks guys, i basically got that squared away. i got rid of the popping by running separate rca's and grounds.

one more thing. when i turned the HU on, one of my amps protection light went on(as it does when its first turned on), but instead of it going out and the green light coming on... the red light just turns off, and nothing happens. it only happened once though. i just want to know what i can check so it doesnt happen again. btw, all the ground are good and tight, and the fuses arent blown.

the red light comes on and STAYS on when the amp detects something wrong like shorts or overheating. You probably had a strand or two of speaker wire that was shorting out at the terminals and when you went to check the amp out you pushed them back.

well both amps seem to be working fine, but that popping came back. when i listen close to the subs, the boom sounds solid sometimes. but every once in a while, the bass hits and it starts to sound hollow, and a little like something is rattling inside... but then it goes away. im stumped.

is the only the bass amp you are having troubles with ? are the bass speakers in a sealed or ported box ? do you like to listen to bass with lots of low frequencies ?

theyre in a sealed box. and actually i think both amps are being affected. when i hear distortion in the subs(powered by the lanzar), sometimes the sony amp goes out too. and even when the sony amp has gone into offset mode, i still hear popping from the subs.

right now i have a single rca w/a y-adaptor to split it to both amps. i still dont know whats wrong, but in a week or so when i get my new subs, im going to put a cap in and run separate rca's from the HU

if there was anything wrong with the sub amp, would the protection light always go on?

I tried listening to it already ... couldn't make heads or tails out of it. I just have two little speakers on my computer. I can't really say for sure without hearing it and seeing it. And maybe not even then .... hard to say. If the protection light stays on, you definitely have a problem. It should stay on as long as something is wrong, when you remove the problem - the light will go out.

yea, thats what i thought. when the distortion comes through, the sony amp shuts off as expected. but eventhough the subs are popping, the sub amp ever seems to be affected. it hasnt gone into protection once.
