Window intermittent ... fuse box?

My driver side window control is intermittent...
I cant put the passenger side down.
The drivers side will go down if i push @ 50000psi.
It'll only go up after bang bang banging the arm rest 1000 times.
The mechanic says i need a new fuse box, that its common in Taurus' (1999 wagon)
Does this sound right?

Do the rear windows work reliably from the driver's door window switch? If so, it's not the fuse box. Since banging on the arm rest seems to have an effect, you probably have a bad connection somewhere, possibly even in the window motor itself.

Does the passenger side window work using the switch on the passenger side door?

There are many connections between the switch and the fuse box that could be bad. You must be hitting that door pretty hard for those vibrations to make it all the way to the fuse box :p

No just the opposite. I haven't seen you say anything that would lead me to believe that it's a bad fusebox, at least not with the way you're describing its symptoms. Intermittent problems usually equal intermittent connections. Before you start shelling out money for new parts that may not be bad, I'd get ahold of a schematic and start tracing the problem down with a meter, starting from the window motor(s) and working toward the fusebox. Don't forget to watch the meter while you're opening and closing the doors because that's a good place for a bad connection. Check all of the grounds too :)
