I was having trouble with the keyless remote for the van - it only worked when I was standing directly next to the van, and then only when I pushed the lock or unlock button repeatedly. So I changed the batteries, followed the directions in the owner's manual to reprogram it, and found that it now only locks at close range, but will not unlock at all. So I pulled out the spare remote that gets occasional use only, and found it, too, now only locked the van. A few hours later it still locks, but no longer honks the horn when locking. Since both remotes are now acting weird, I think it means the problem is in the van on the receiving end, and I have no idea what it could be or how expensive it would be to fix. I don't want to sink a lot of money into a "non-essential" item on a van with 98K miles (I can still lock and unlock the old fashioned way - using the key). How do I ferret out the problem?

Try reprogramming the transmitter. Unlock the vehicle using the transmitter. Turn ign on and press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4-10 seconds. While pressing and holding the UNLOCK button, press and release the PANIC button before 10 seconds has passed. A chime will sound to verify the module is ready to receive the transmitter code. Within 30 seconds of hearing the chime, acutate each button on the transmitter. After 30 seconds the module will complete the programming by sounding a chime tone. Turn ign off. Verify transmitter operation.

I did the reprogramming initially - got the chime and the beep that it was accepted. But now it won't unlock at all using the remote - not even if I'm inside the van. Nothing. It locks without the horn blowing, but will not unlock.:frown:

Boy, I think you're at the point where you need to invest in an Alldata subscription. There are about 13 pretty intricate steps to test out the remote keyless entry module---way too much to post here. The module is located under the instrument panel cover on the top of the dash. The whole cover panel has to come off to replace the module.
