89 C1500 A/C Question

How do you jumper the connector on the side of the receiver/drier and when you do will the clutch stay on contantly or will it cycle? The A/C clutch on my 89 C1500 does cycle, but it does it very rapidly... about 2 seconds on then 2 seconds off constantly. I don't ever remember it cycling that fast before. The A/C system has been professionally converted from R12 to R134 about 3 years ago, was fine up to now and currently registers aprroximately 40 PSI at the Low side and blows about 60 degrees F inside the cab... outside ambient temp is 80 degrees F. My thought is that the clutch is cycling so fast that it doesn't stay on long enough to pull in the new charge I put in the system. Was wondering if jumpering the connector on the side of the receiver/drier would make the compressor stay on constantly... at least for a few minutes until it could pull the new charge into the system... then maybe the clutch will start cycling normal. Any help would be appreciated.

Two things I can think of...

1. Check the low pressure sensor on the accumulator (receiver/dryer). Pull the electrical connection and jumper the wires to see if the compressor runs after that. It should run constant, that is the only fail-safe for the compressor. Don't keep it that way, this means your freon is low or you have a clog in the system.

2. The compressor clutch. I don't know how to jumper the clutch but my friend had a similar problem and it turned out to be the clutch on the compressor, it just wouldn't stay engaged. Yup, new compressor...

After you get the compressor to run.
Give us your low and high side readings at idle and at 2K.

With one these things.
