changing lock cyclinder, will passlock be an issue?

I would like to change the lock cylinder in my Sunfire, as the one key I have has a bad side to it. As I understand the system now, replacing just the lock cylinder will not cause problems with passlock. Am I correct?

I don't think it will effect passlock. I replaced the lock cylinder on my 94' Camaro and it worked fine. Even if it did mess with the passlock I didn't have much of a choice. My car wouldn't start at all no matter what I did.

There is a signal range produced by the PassLock sensor in the lock cylinder case (housing). The signal is specific to a given BCM. A replacement cylinder case is unlikely to produce the same range signal. When a lock cylinder case is replaced, a learn procedure must be performed.

If only the internal lock cylinder itself is replaced, and the original cylinder case remains, the system should not require a re-learn.
