Signs you need to flush your coolant system... Coolant is dirty, and the car is beginnin to run hotter then normal... or if you have a lot of miles with original coolant.

The coolant in the car should be an orange color... this would be Dex-cool the coolant that they have been putting in the newer GM cars.

The stuff you see floating around in the coolant, is not uncommon for the dexcool orange coolant. This is the coolant breaking down from wear and tear. You are probably better off doing a flush and getting it over with just incase it was never done. if your heater core was going out you would have a leak either by the firewall, or inside the car. You would also have a heavy coolant smell inside the car and the windows fogging up. Unless you are experiencing these things I would say at the moment your heatercore is fine.
