Is porn really harmless?

After that other thread and hearing people talk about how pornography is harmless it got me thinking. Then this article (http://www.harktheherald.com/article.php?sid=64234&mode=thread&order=0) came up in the newspaper. Quite disturbing what it can do to you.

And I'm not saying that stuff like this will happen to everyone, just something to think about.

It's pretty easy to lay the blame on the pornography,if that reinforces your own personal feelings about adult-oriented material. My argument would be that the porn would be a symptom of a failing marriage, not a cause, and that the killer is simply seeking an easy excuse for an apalling crime.Let's be honest, when couples disagree on a subject like this, you either learn to exercise discretion, learn to compromise,or decide to manage without. You don't go out and try to poison your partner. The fact that one criminal has tried to justify his actions and evade responsibility by casting the blame on his victim should not be an excuse for the anti-everything brigade to push its barrow.

It seems like porn was the least of this man's problems. Correlations like this exist in classic textbook examples (i.e. - Ice cream sales cause increase in homicides in NY). The guy was simply a nut, or married my ex-girlfriend (which would drive anyone mad :D).

However, I thank you for your concern and hope my fellow humans keep their lives in balance.

First of all, that guy was dumb. He used some stupid shit to try and poison her...

Second, I don't think that pornography is "harmless", but it depends on the individual viewing the material. For instance, if someone is addicted to it, they tend to have all these un-realistic fantasies about sex. When sex in the "real world" doesn't stack up to their inflated sexual imagination, it might cause some psychological problems or something...

I seriously doubt, though, that it could be the sole factor responsible for his reprehensible behavior, only (as Mr T pointed out) a symptom of a larger issue(s).
