Dreams coming true...

Once upon a time there was a little car. He was sad because he didn't see daylight for quite a long time. His body had been primed ages ago. Somebody had a plan all set up for him, but unfortunately the plan was never realized and he was put back in his box and left alone. All the time he was dreaming about a life as a flashy roadster. Shiny paint, bright chrome...and a few liters of fresh oil once in a while. He even dreamed of moving on with his career - becoming a famous sportscar and winning shiny trophies. But nothing ever happened. But all of a sudden there was bright light everywhere! Somebody had lifted the box lid...he looked up - still puzzled from beeing taken aback :uhoh:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_016.jpg

To make a long story short...his many dreams are reality now. First he was painted with shiny paint:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_001.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_002.jpg

Bright chrome has been added...but no pictures have been taken yet.

I just have a rough idea where this will end. One thing is certain, though. Once finished it'll tell a lot about this little MGB's dreams.

Enjoy this WIP. I'll update soon.

Cheers from Germany

 nice one Seb!

I love these kind of cars. I just don't understand why they always stay at the bottom of my stash :screwy:

Ferrari TR, you forgot to add that in the beginning, he was a "wannaB" ;)

Thanks guys :)

I'll post more pics later. Just a quick paint info right now:

AutoK Multona 0795 (a product of Peter Kwasny group).

It's just a cheap universal metallic blue in a spray can (400ml).
Nothing special...and applied quite sloppy. Just one dry and
one wet coat. Sealed with AutoK gloss clear, also from a can.
I didn't bother polishing because this car will tell a story....but
you'll find out about that later

The little MGB had many dreams. Some of them already came true....shiny paint. Next was the chrome trim...well, parts of it anyway.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_004.jpg

He enjoyed it...but dreamed on: What if he had some wire wheels with low profile tires? Wouldn't that be one step closer to being a real sportscar?

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_005.jpg

Getting close, no? Well...a chopped windshield was another thing he dreamed of.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_007.jpg

Low profile tires and a low profile windshield sounded quite exciting...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_006.jpg

What about rollover bars and bucket seats? And quite a few instrument to monitor his heart? Or even a fire extinguisher?

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_008.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_009.jpg

This very dream keeps getting better. He had a vision - very sleek and elegant but also very sporty...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_010.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_011.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_012.jpg

Whoaa...but eventually he woke up.

Chrome trim? Check!
Low profile tires? Check!
Racing interior? Check!
Rollover protection? Check!
Chopped windshield? Errr....nope :frown:

Not too bad, actually. Classy sportscar appearance even w/o a chopped windshield. More like a daily driver...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_014.jpg

Some of his dreams came true - and the windshield goes to his bastard brother :naughty:

[EDIT] Everything is just mocked up...and far from being complete.

I know (oki I admit I'm a kinda car sensitive/medium LOL) what the badass bastard brother deam about: a red canvas "speedster" cover and just a thiiiiiiny thiiiiny thiiiiiiiiiiiny windshield, understand? thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.... :D

great so far

BUT:

I read sometime on EVO when Gordon Murray write a page that (for him) sportscar should be (like those and Colin Chapman's stuff)

light (so forgot unuseful windshields LOL)
right powered: 100hp is more than enough with 450 Kg ;) (so skip trims LOL)
and.... like his old Lotus Elan, shitty "wheeled": he (with rights) said that 4 175 wide wheels allow to do anything with just few HP....: YOUR ARE WIIIIIIDE!!!

Dreaming on....

Found a better interior pic, so you can see the carpet (no flocking!).

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_017.jpg

Meanwhile the little roadsters' chrome trim came back from the BMF chrome shop...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_018.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_019.jpg

...but unfortunately the rear bumber was lost in the process (nobody noticed that it was a fiberglass replacement part
before dumping it in the acid :screwy: ).
Now li'l MGB has to soldier on w/o a rear bumper.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_020.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_021.jpg

Until next time. Sleep well and keep on dreamin'

PS: rear bumber mounts might not be 100% accurate, but I had no ref. pics :uhoh:

COOL! Love the oversize wire wheels/tires, lowered suspension.
Best B interior I've ever seen in scale! roll hoops and belts are awesome. Just fantastic. How will it steer with that ride height:lol:

the story continues...the little B is confronted with a Datsun 2000 roadster of the same vintage, it tries to keep up but it's little 1800 pushrod engine just can't keep...just kidding:grinyes:

Thanks for the kind replies, guys!

The MGB dreams about being a racer...so some help to keep him from getting too excited is in order:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_023.jpg

Voilá - a nifty little oil cooler :sunglasse

Meanwhile it has been painted (pics tomorrow)...but otherwise the project is on hold. I had a little mishap' with one of the weels :banghead: :banghead: (don't ask...)

I will do the chrome trim on the windshield tonight. After that is done I'll go to bed and try to dream up a miracle "replacement" wheel  :1zhelp:

Thanks for watching!

PS: The oil cooler is from scaleproduction (http://www.scaleproduction.de/)

Allright,

oil cooler is painted. I might add a wash later in the progress....

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/MGB/cafe_racer/caf_racer_024.jpg

Also added the license plate. Strangely there was only one on the decal sheet :screwy: , hence no plate up front.

I love watching this build! You convinced me to go ahead and get the MGB kit I've been eyeing for... probably years. I think hobby shops should pump money into this place - nothing sells kits better than seeing kits being built up awesome. And this build is awesome advertisement! Keep it up!
