I just bought a 2000 Durango V8. Well the A/C is not working properly. It seems cold air won't blow in the front but will in the back. Does anybody know what this might be?????

I am looking for the answer to the same question. My mechanic is in the process of replacing the evaporator at the tune of $300.00. I will let you know if this fixes the issue.

The expansion valve might be stuck.

If your air is working in the rear but not the front,it sounds to me like you have a blend door that is obstructed and not operating properly. Or you may have a bad vacuum motor that controls the door. However, it also may be a vacuum leak in the line that supplies the vacuum motor.

I took mine to a mechanic and he changed out the expansion valve and the dryer and it made is somewhat better but it is still not cold enough. I am bringing it back in. I live in houston and it is hot.

the air blows and is somewhat cold only when the RPM's are up.

This A/C subject has been at the forefront ever since Durangos were born. I have a '98, and posted a thread back in 2005 or 2006 regarding the same issue. At someones suggestion, every spring after cold weather, I disconnect the heater hoses at the firewall, and splice them together. Then about the time cold weather starts up, I reverse them back to normal so we have heat in the winter. This does help, but frankly, Durango A/C sucks.. Most repair folks will tell you about $2500 to fix it, because they don't know where to start and don't know where they will wind up.

What exactly does this do?

Well, if the blend door is stuck partially open, heat from the heater core is permeating the A/C system during the summer, keeping the A/C from cooling properly. Actually, a repair technician suggested that, because he could not tell me exactly what all the issues were with the A/C unless he spent 8 hours taking it apart. So I tried it and it has worked for the past three years.
