XM Radio

Hi, one of your members came over to our forum at www.xmfan.com and I figured I'd return the favor and come here and look around.

If anyone here has XM Satellite Radio, we want to know about it. And you can discuss it in detail on our forum xmfan.com!

My Deck is XM ready, but I doubt I will ever buy the goodies I need to get started with it. I am more than happy with CD's and MP3's for now. Its quite expensive here in Canada to get started with XM, and I dont know how well it would work here, I dont even know anyone that has it.

XM works pretty well in Canada from the reports we have heard on our board. The only places where it would suck (not work well) is downtown metropolitan areas in Canada, where you have alot of steel and concrete structures blocking the sat signal.

In the US, XM has set up ground-based repeaters to avoid this problem.

What kind of deck do you have? If its pioneer, you can get an add on tuner for about $150 (US) and its fully backwards compatible with the Pioneer IP BUS.

Also, all you need to subscribe to XM in Canada is a US billing address. Know any relatives south of the border?

I've never heard of it. But if I have to pay it's no go...I'm too cheap to buy anything :D:D

As cheapness goes, You guys here spend so much cash on your vehicles looks and performance, why not give yourselves that extra treat and put in the XM. Your ears will thankk you for years to come.

Try it out. Get it from Best Buy or circuit city. If you don't like it - return it. Then at least someone else can get it cheaper because it will be an "open box".

Anyways, what, in a nutshell, is XM? What are the benefits over regular FM, CD's, or MP3's? I might be persuaded to look into it, I do like my tunes...

Believe me I am not here to advertize my forum, but I think its the best place for you to get all the information you need about XM.

One of your moderators (JD@af) is a close friend of mine and I signed up here cause of him.

In a nut shell, XM is like having a 100 channel radio with extremely FEW commercials and about 30 channels with ZERO commercials. Its any type of music you want at ANY time. Also 30 chanels of sports, news, variety, comedy (uncensored), etc.!

Works seamlessly nationwide, and after the initial $200 investment, its $10 a month. You will stop buying CD's once you have it, and the quality is much better than a 128Kbs MP3 (which is the default quality).

I'll stick with getting an in dash Mp3 player. Radio has been free since it was introduced and has remained free felying on advertisers to pay for them. Now they want people to pay for it. I am sure there are people that will, but there are too many that won't. Monthly fees, I have enough of those. If it was only a matter of buying equipment then it might be appealing to me.

You just give people something for free for so long and then expect them to pay for it, and more so since the price per month is astronomical. I pay that much for my sat T.V.

I agree with you about having too many bills and such. But FWIW, Since getting XM, I have cut my Directv bill in half cause I listen to a ton more radio (XM) now than i watch TV.

Its you choice... FYI - if you visit my website and PM me there, becasue we are close with XM, we have a special deal offering the XM Delphi unit with cradle for under $100. For the next few weeks or unitl supplies run out.

Once you go XM, you never go back. Its like having free broadcast TV (today's FM) - getting Cable with HBO, Showtime, etc. (XM).

you can't go back to regular TV after that!

I wouldn't get it- I can get sattelite radio for free if I buy a Renault :rolleyes:

Some people here at work have the service, it cost's quite a bit for all of the equipment, and their montly service is around 10 bucks.

I myself just want to get a MP3 Cd player. I have at least 2 gigabytes of mp3's saved onto my harddrive at home.
