V-8 power.... Oh yeah!

The GT-R with a v-8 would be great! Looking at the VK45DE engine now offered in the Q45, I would be hoping for a little more power. They would likely have to TT this baby to get the Supercar numbers that everyone has been talking about. In a TT application I think it would be easy to go from 330 hp to 440 bhp. Only bout a 30% increase in power.

As is, the engine has variable intake controls, variable valve timing, titanium valves, etc; not too much left for improvement without stroking it. Now coming from a C5 vette with 350 hp, I would say that 330 hp is impressive, but I would like more! For the GT-R to compete now a days it would really need 440 hp, especially in the $80k segment in the USA.

As for being out of the average Joe's price range, I think that will be a given. With Audi bringing the RS6 to the USA with a TT 440 hp V-8 for $80k, I would say that it is a safe bet that the GT-R would be in the $80k neighborhood. I wonder what the new NSX will cost. Can't imagine it would be less than the current one. It's a great handling car, with more power it would be truely evil!

Chevy is bringing back the Australian Holden Monaro as a V-8 GTO. Cadillac is making a V version of some of their models too. The rumor is that one will have a 440 hp TT v-8. The Europeans are making some awsome V-8s, V-10s, and V-12s. Jaguar, Astin Martin, BMW, and Mercedes all have some pretty awsome V-8s and larger. Even VW has a W-8 engine! It is truely awsome to live in the second coming of the muscle car era!

THERE WAS TALK OF PUTTING THE 3.5 LITER TT FROM THE R390 IN THE R35 BUT THATS JUST RUMORS , IT WOULD BE NICE . I STILL LIKE THE RB26DETT , IT'S JUST A GOOD MOTOR FOR THE SKYLINE:smoker2:

Yeah man the RB26DETT is what made the Skyline what it currently is a legend! I would love to see them stick with it but the engine from the R390 don't sound so bad too bad its such a low possibility.

The RB26DETT is PART of the legend, not what made it a legend.

I visited the Nissan dealer yesterday. They had some really cool new cars. I was impressed with the 350Z. It definitely looks better up close, than seeing it in pictures. Suprisingly it even had enough head room and leg room for my 6'4'' frame. It looks very ergonomic and tastefully done.

They also had this new urban SUV called the Murano. Very nice! I hate SUVs, but this was medium sized and done very very tastefully. It really made me want one. The interior styling shared many cues from the new Z. Very nice! I believe the steering will looked exactly like the Z's.

If the GT-R is anything like these two, it should be an excellent vehicle. Now I need to go look at an Infiniti G35 Coupe up close. Supposedly the GT-R will be a closer cousin to the G35 than the Z.

Looking at the G35 Coupe... a hipo version with an 8 cylinder would be very nice... but maybe a smaller motor, or at least one that is more compact, like a W8 design... twin turbo charged as well... I'm thinking 8-9500 RPM redline with a flat torque curve...

There is no reason that a v8 would make any more power than any other engine configuration. Nismo are running an R34 GTR in the JGTC using a VQ30DETT (3 litre twin turbo v6), suggesting that it may well be the chosen engine for the new GTR. PersonallyI'm disappointed that the inline 6 is gone, but I guess that's the way it goes.

Totally agree about it being a shame that the RB series has gone........ still, roll on the VQ30DETT. Will be much better than a V8, the GTR just wouldn't be right with a V8 in it.
