Hi friends!

I must to ask you about judging and voting in contest.

I was accused by for unfairness by people who won People choice that they
win contest even I wrote that there is no awards for People choice. They
think that if is online contest that must be visitors choice, not judges
choice. I told them that I asked sponsors about that and that sponsors
choused Judges choice.

But there is problem because People choice often is decided by popularity of
modeler ad not by they model. And than win some model which isn't good as
same others. That was showed in the past many times.

I rather like to have contest fair and to run it like normal contest. Please
tell me your choice and opinions.

Do I quit judges and only keep people choice (and than maybe we
havepopularity choice, not quality choice)? Or I keep judges and quit
people choice? Or just to keep both and write that there is no awards for
people choice untill some sponsors decide to give them awards?

Please answer me your advice and opinions on my mail.

Thank you in advance!

Keep it like it is now, no need for change IMO.

If I ever participate, I'm happy to get even one vote, so I want the People's Choice to stay :D

Do this, it isn't like the people who enter are losing anything, you would think that just the satisfaction of winning peoples choice is a far enough award. The contest is a privilege, it looks like the people who are complaining are abusing that privilege.

I think its fine, surely the peoples vote can be abused by multiple votes by the same person/entrant and could also get all their buddies to vote for them too!

Any type of voting process is going to have its complaners, I should know I have run a contest or two with judges AND peoples choice. The problem I see is the fact you DONT have a prize for peoples choice, BUT at the same time you have TWO prizes for the judged winner. Why not take one of those prizes and give it to the PCA (peoples choice award)? How hard would that be to do??

Just a thought

Hi HRModeler,

Since the late 1980's I've been taking part on a lot of contests. In my own country and abroad (Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, UK) with mixed fortunes. In the UK for example I won category and special trophees, like Rico/Tamiya trophee etc. whereas in the Netherlands, with the same models I got no price at all. Just to say, that judging is a subjective thing, not only in modeling but in every single thing where a jury is concerned (skating, singing, Miss Uni election etc.). I never bottered about it, since the main reason for taking part for me was and still is a gesture to support the organizer and not to win a cool prize. When that happens, winning the prize, for the better, but it may not be the main reason.

If someone is having difficulties with the outcome of the jury's votes, he should not take part in these sort of competitions, but go and do something else where no jury is involved. (tennis, soccer, football, hockey, skiing, chess, racing!... and so on)

That being said, it might be of some help to look for some software who prevents people voting more then one time. I have a similar thing in my web polls. Look at www.dream-tools.com for more info. Maybe you find it usefull.

So keep it as it is and if you want to publish my comment, feel free to do so. You might want to include the link to Automotomover site as well. Good luck with you very cool content initiative!

Cheers,
Guido

Thank you all on aswers and suport.
All answers are posted on contest pages now.

Guido, I don't have links on contest pages but I will put it on my cars pages. I didn't find any good pool which can prevent multiply voting from same person. This one was good but even cookies always can be deleted and voting can be done again.
