Monte Carlo Shakes When Braking

:banghead: My 2002 MC shakes when I brake. Took it to a mechanic but he could not figure it out. Told I need to take it to the dealer. Only shakes when braking no matter what the speed the slower Im driving the less it shakes. Brand new tires and brakes. Rooters have been shaved he even tried to replace. Said sounds like it comming from right side. Said not an alignment or axle. Any other suggestions?

not to state something obvious but is the wheel on there tight ? Maybe its the wheel hub ?

Mine used to do this... The rotor was warped at the hub, so even when I had it turned it was still uneven and caused vibration. See if you can mount it to something fairly solid and spin it to check it. But then again if he tried new ones, I dunno what it could be.

I would try replacing the rotors. You might check these parts: wheel bearings, springs, wheel cylinder or caliper (leakage), and steering gear clamp bushings. Go to your local parts store and buy a Haynes Repair Manual for Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo & Impala (FWD) 1995 thru 2005. This is one book. Hope this helps.

rotors have been shaved? so they filed them down? Don't ever do that. Its a waste of money, especially for smaller cars. With larger truck and suv;s they can be filed down, because they are thicker. I don't want to sound like a know it all, but Im just trying to pass on knowledge :) Just replace the rotors, they are cheap and easy. When you file down rotors you erase thickness for metal to absorb heat.

Did you get new rotors put on? Becasue if you didn't they might be warped. Warped rotors will cause yoru car to shake bad when braking. Doesyour car shake at acceleration at all?

I agree with the rest of them...It wasn't clear if you had new rotors put on or not, but if not, that would be the first thing I would do. Again I agree, shaving rotors is only going to save you a few dollars and they don't last long and sometimes don't fix the problem. If you didn't replace the rotors, that is what I'd do.
