99 cougar alarm system problem/need help

Well i just bought a keyless remote and tried to program it,didnt quite work or maybe i messed up but everything seemed normal.Well couple hours later my car lights were going on and off as an alarm,this had never happened before so i dont know what the problem was but it keeps happening everytime i lock the doors,the remote doesnt seem to work but at times it reacts with the car,im tryin to fix a few things up but if anyone what can be the problem,it would be great help,thanks.
