longtube is what you'd be better off with, unless room is an issue, then shorties will work.

Don't order from a catalog (online, or traditional) until you've done some research as to what fits. Edelbrock had a vast selection of headers with dofferent coatings, finishes, sizes and applications. I think Holly makes headers as well as do other manufacturers such a Summit, Weiand, Hooker, Flowtech, JBA, Flaming River, & Thorley.

Is emmisions inspection a concern? If so then shorties it is. If not then you can look at middlength or longtubes.
With the proximity of things like the AC lines and ABS lines to the headers ceramic coating should be considered manditory.
This is a part where cheaper will likely mean more work and expense to install, the headers specific to this application that fit really well and install easily with boltin pipes or cats to the existing catback, are hand built from thick tubing and are expensive. You can make headers meant for a second gen Camaro work in many cases but most are thin tubing, thin flanges, all will require costom work to hookup to the exhaust, some might require a bit of grinding on the suspension brace.

not to mention constant retightening of the header flange bolts, due to that thin tubing and flange.

are they worth the trouble of getting and installing...should i give up on them or get them?

In your cars' case, that's a decision that you have to make. If you're not going to go spinning that thing near redline most of the time, I personally wouldn't waste my time. I've only owned one car in my life that I put headers on, and they were back off that car less than 36 hours after they went on.
Will they increase performance and economy? To a point, yes - but you also have to consider the possible consequences to running headers. They give a LOT of heat inside the engine bay - into the realm of 'copious quantities of it' - heat that you WILL feel radiating from the firewall and down into your lower extremites (feet, legs). If you don't get good, expensive headers, you will be replacing gaskets and torquing bolts on a regular basis. You will also have to re-route your plug wires to keep them off of the headers and remember that with the OptiSpark on your car, the distributor is at the front, behind the water pump.
