speed sensor... what do you think

one day my speedometer and odometer completely crapped out, moments after i accidentally stalled my car from not giving it enough gas ( i have a 94 gxe 5 speed)....:icon16:
check engine light came on the next day... a few days later i pulled the code, got a speed sensor code and a knock sensor code. so i pull the speed sensor and test the resistance and the voltage pulse as you rotate the pinion, and got the appropriate reading...
HOWEVER, the plastic pinion sitting on the shaft of the speed sensor is kinda chewed up a bit, the gear teeth are bent up and i guess since its plastic it warped that way... its pretty bad. i mean only a portion of the pinion's teeth are messed up, not all the way around, but is it still enough to create problems like this? do you think that if i replace that plastic pinion the speedometer and odometer will work again? or perhaps there is a fuse i should test or something? my cluster works with the exception of speedometer and odometer, and check engine light came on for speed sensor the day after those two things broke.

so i bought a new plastic cog and replaced the old chewed one, however the speedometer and odometer do not work still... should i buy a speed sensor and try replacing the old one, even tho the old one still electrically tests as 'good'???

What about the knock sensor?

Apparently the knock sensor code comes up all the time with old altimas; in addition, from what i know the knock sensor would not affect the functioning of the speedometer/odometer, it would just result in poor fuel economy.
Anyone know how to remove the instrument cluster?

please tell me you got somewhere with this issue cause i am having the same trouble just starting yesterday.. The speedo went out randomly, came back for about 20 mins that evening, then never came back again. however I havent had a code pop up of any kind as of yet.

Well the speedo, issue i don't know. I thought it was a mechanica device that could not go out unless disconnected from the chassy via one cable.
