This is a Resilient Resins body. I wet sanded it, primed it (with green primer), and sanded it again to find any low spots and remove any high spots. Any pin holes and low spots were filled with CA. The wheel wells were shaped and refined and the cockpit was cut out. I will make a firewall before cutting open the hood.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC02575.jpg
The head light openings were first drilled open for brass tubing to make the recesses.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC02578.jpg
This is how they looked after the brass was cemented in with CA and shaped. Also the rear view mirror has been shaved off.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC02580.jpg
Now the body is primed with a more traditional white primer, shown under it are the donor head light lenses from a Tamiya Morgan kit.

It is not going to be a "normal" Monza when it is done, but you'll have to wait to see what develops...

Fantastic car!
One of the original happy smiling race cars and I'm glad to see someone, especially you build one. Did this come with an engine or is it a third part kit?
I wasn't aware anyone made a kit of the 4 cylinder ferrari engines.
oh wait....
i guess that might be the not normal part then.

Indeed...Making anything even remotely close to original 750 Monza from this body will require a lot of work! The body is incorrect in so many places! Good luck with the build!

Here the hood has been cut out (using a scriber and the back side of an older X-acto #11 blade). A lip was made of sheet styrene so the hood won't fall through the hole. The firewall (mounted before cutting out the hood for structural rigidity) is visible through the opening.

The hood in place after being cut out.

The tail lights were done the same way as the headlights, just smaller brass inserts (tubing). I'll probably machine red lenses for them if I don't trip over some first.

A shot of the engine and some of the engine bay frame work. The hole in the firewall has been cut for the transmission tunnel.

Well, what is sure is that we're discovering a new (and obscure-LOL) side of Mark!
This also made me try to answer to the question "why seems unsacre to fit a modern V8 on the belly of a 850 Monza, equipped with a revolutionary Lampredi's L4 coming from F1, and seem cool mount on a Colin's S7 anything, from Vtecs to V12s?"
Haven't an answer jet, I guess is a "skin" question: I'll like to waith the finish of this job to find the answer ;)

Love the build. Is that a 360 V8? I know that is the 360 pulley system, but is the block? What did you use for the intake?
Scale-Master

Yep, that's a Tamiya 360 engine, the intake is just a little modified from the kit's parts.
I used a two part polyester primer/sealer:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC02674.jpg
An hour or so later I wet sanded it smooth:
(The hood scoop has been opened up with a knife, files and a scriber.)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC02675.jpg
Then sprayed a base coat of white:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC02677.jpg
It's White now, hope to get the Red on it today, better find something to paint Blue too...
After all, it is the Fourth Of July here in the U.S.A.!

Tis true, tis true.
I have a question about your priming process though. A two part primer means what exactly? Do you mix two parts to get the primer? The reason I ask is that when you sand it it seems very stepped, or leveled between coats. Is that the benefit of that kind of primer?

The primer requires a catalyst, just like a two part automotive urethane clear for example. The "stepping" is actually feather edging of high areas that were sanded level, the different colors of primers, (green, white, dark gray, light gray), allow you to see the depths easily. One more coat of the two part primer could have been used, (and then sanded), but I felt the finish was smooth enough to proceed with the white base.

the different shades of primer is also what a lot of professional car restorers do on 1:1 bodywork; especially when it's the old italian hand beaten/shaped steel bodies.
by the, now might be a bad time to mention it but it looks like your headlights might be a touch too small.
would have to see it with the fairings though to be sure.

Not a bad time, if you read earlier posts in the thread, that is discussed, possibly explained...
You did notice a V8 resides where a four banger should be...?

Finally got around to shooting the final paint on this Ferrari last Friday and stashed it in a closet over the weekend. Testors Model Master Italian Red. I must say I am pleased to see how it looks now!
