Location and removal of EGR help

1998 5.7L Silverado 4WD. 130,000 miles. Just got
a P0404 error SES code, which is a warning on the
EGR circuit. There are notorious stories about the
EGR on these engines getting blocked up with junk,
or just outright failing.
Questions:
Can you point me to where it is on the engine? I know
what it looks like from looking at pictures.
Is there anything special I need to know before removing it, or
does it just pull right out after removing the two flange bolts that
hold it on? ( I assume I'll have to put a new gasket on it even if
I put the old one back in).
Is there any hope of cleaning it and reusing it? These things cost
a freakin' fortune (like $150).
Thank you all.

Front top of lower intake manifold. Right next to coolant sensor/thermostat housing - upper radiator hose.
I have no tricks to cleaning it. Be careful and remove any carbon buildup around it and in the port. I reused my gasket.

Thanks! It's a lot bigger looking than I thought (it's about 2" in diameter).
I don't think I would have necessarily recognized it with all the other
similar looking junk bolted on around the manifold.
