Sunfire 200 Dashboard and Shifter

Recently i got a new stereo deck and side speakers installed to my 2000 Sunfire. It is working fine but what i wanted to know is if in any way it interferes with the lights on the dashboard and shifter. Ever since i got the deck, the lights both for the dashboard and for the shifter do not turn on. I don't know if it has to do with the deck or if the bulbs just burned out but it is odd if both burned at the same time when the deck was installed. Can someone hep me out?

check you fuses, they might have connected the dimmer wire on the hed unit to the wiring for you cluster lights. possibly it shorted it out, or maybe it is drawing to much current. But first check the fuse, if not that see if they connected the wire and if so, disconnect and try it out. If neither of those seem to be the problem hit me back I will try to help you out.

I checked my fuses and they are all fine; so i guess when the deck was installed, somehow the wiring screwed up my dashboard lights (only on the odometer) and the lights on the shifter. Pretty much my signals lights, check engine, and the rest do show up on the dash but the odometer and shifter (the lights that indicate park, neutral, and drive) do not light up. Are those 2 things somehow related or link to the deck????

I found out why my dash lights and my shift lights do not work. With GM Models 2000 and up, they have a class 2 data interface, which means that a lot of features work with the original deck. So once u take out the original deck, you loose those features. I now know that i need a wire harness for my after market deck eg. the Metra VT-GMRC-01 but i'm confused about one thing. Do i connect the after market deck with this harness by itself or do I still need to keep the original deck on for features to work??? The reason I ask is because some websites were saying how they kept the original deck and they keep it in the trunk in order for the features to work. But if i get the Metra wire harness, do i still have to have the orginal deck connected????

you either keep the old deck or you get a relay thing to replace the function of the deck, but im not sure on all of this cuz i dont have this problem, but one way or another you have to do one of them to get your lights back
