Picked up my Y8 a week and a half ago, just working on getting it tore apart and cleaned up right now. Also, took the dremel to the valve-cover and now sandpaper, getting it prepped for a polish (or possibly chromate powder coat). Wish I had some before photos of the valve-cover...

looking good. how long before you put it in?

Not putting it in until early next spring. I'm going to spend the entire winter tearing it apart, cleaning everything, replacing stuff, rebuilding, and putting it back together prepped for turbo (which I hope to install during the swap). :D :D :D :D

I'm personally going to make sure that EVERYTHING is perfect. I've already put about 5 hours into the valve-cover alone, grinding out the imperfections, sanding, sanding, sanding... Next up is the intake manifold...

The following parts will also find their way onto the engine:
MSD 6A Ignition
Lightweight Pulleys
Adjustable Timing Gear
92-95 Greddy Turbo w/Intercooler

I'm still waiting to hear from dropshop about what else I should put on (injectors, fuel rail, cam regrind, rods, pistons, etc.?)

figured as much

I've heard that the d16y8 head isnt as good as the d16z6 head, even though the y8 makes 2 more hp. let me find a quote from another message board i go on...

I went to the dyno yesterday to test out the new 1.6 sohc engine. I just put Darton steel sleeves in the block and had the Y8 head fully ported. I upped the boost to 23 PSI and put a 125hp (#52 jet) shot of single nozzle ZEX nitrous to her. The engine responded with a peak of 465 whp at 6500 RPM. The power band seemed to have moved lower with the Y8 head, with a stock Z6 it peaked at 6800 rpm. Either way, it made 350 whp as low as 4600 rpm and was still making 445 whp at 7200 rpm when I shut it off. I am pretty happy with the broad powerband. I guess this is why the car is so fast for the power it makes. I have raced cars with 125 more peak whp, and they ran 3-4 tenths slower than me. After having tested the stock Y8, stock Z6, ported Y8, and ported Z6 cylinder heads, it is my conclusion that a stock Y8 sucks, fully ported Y8 head is about as good a stock Z6 head (with a 300 rpm lower powerband), stock Z6 head is awesome, fully ported Z6 head had no performance improvement. Now, this is for my particular combination........this may not be true for anyone else, I just though I would throw out my conclusions.

that is from ezboard d series posted by a guy named Zexman who seems to know his shit. just my 2 cents...

I'm thinking around late March, early April for the swap. I figure that'll be enough time for me to scrape together 5 grand for the turbo, intercooler, etc.

I'm definitely down for another OR meet!

I had already pulled the fuel rail and injectors off when the pic was taken. Still need to buy the z6 dizzy, and for some reason, they had that waterneck (or whatever the hell it is) hanging from the dizzy spot.

When my girlfriend gets back from Houston, I'll have to get some pics of the valve-cover progress.
