Has anybody done a DIY aux input in your factory radio?

you need a PIE adapter - I got mine form www.logjamelectronics.com (http://www.logjamelectronics.com)

once installed - when switching through the 'media' key options - you will have a new option called 'DJ' which is the new input

I got mine from www.peripheralelectronics.com (http://www.peripheralelectronics.com/), it's called the PXDX & harness PXHFD3. The only thing is I had to lose my CD changer which I wasn't happy about, but since I could add more songs to my Zune I wasn't that worried about it. Once installed you access it just by pressing the CD button. The display flashes 1-2, if you want the steering controls to work you have to connect the CD changer cable back together

Quik LS- How hard was the installation of the "PIE" device? Do you like the way the device has worked for you?

Thanks in advance :)

I am getting TomTom 910 (GPS) w/ its own MP3 player and iPod connection. With the FM transmitter I'll just have to tune my radio in. Also if you have a Bluetooth on your cell, than handsfree-through-your-speakers phone calls are possible. It also has text-to-voice feature, meaning it can read your phone text messages for you. :grinyes:

the FM transmitters do not have the same quality that the direct connected devices do.

The pie simply plugs in between the factory plug and the head unit, you unplug the factory plug, plug the pie into the head unit, and plug the factory plug into the pie. Then you simply wire up a 12v.

what year is your LS and what stereo do you have now?

I have a 2003 LS with the 6 disc in dash CD player. No navigation and no satellite radio. Can't seem to find the right interface and have been told it may NOT be possible?
Thanks!

I agree the FM transmitter is a waste of money - the sound quality is really poor. I have been looking for a good direct connect solution as well for my 2001 w/ 6 disc in dash unit. I do not want to lose my cd player capability. What are the drawbacks of this PIE unit?

Is there any other plug in thats an add on with out the take away??

Logjam has yours too: (double check the input button specs)

To be honest, I got a better deal from EnFigCarStereo:

Hey clubairth - did you make any progress on this? I've got a 2003 LS with the Navigation and 6 disk changer and I wanted to do the same thing, but I've been told the same as you.

I was told the same on my wife's Sport Trac.. turns out the product at LogJam works perfectly.

No, the vehicle is NOT specifically listed on the product I bought, but I followed the year range and equipment options to the model I got, it works perfectly.

Thanks Towncar. Did the interface disable the cd changer?

Thanks Towncar. Did the interface disable the cd changer?

We were referring to the In Dash changer... Not the external changer.
No it didn't effect the in-dash.

I believe, if I was reading all the specs for the different converters correctly, (and you'll have to go over them yourself too), and it depends on the equipment you have, IF you have an external changer AND a satellite system, one of those two will be killed as it uses one of those ports.

That's why IF you have just the HU with the built in changer, and the AUX or CD button, and possibly a Sub you should be able to match those criteria to a converter without a problem, even if your vehicle isn't specifically referenced on the converter specs.

The specs detail which config. you have, which AUX button you have, etc.
