Hi, I'm new to the Car Audio scene, so I have a few questions.
A friend of me is buying a flat, so he's selling his sound system, and he asked me if I wanted to buy it. The system is almost brand new, and it sounds phenomenal in his car. He gave me a list of all the components, but that doesn't really tell me anything.
1 Denon DCT-Z1 deck..
1 Denon DCH-470 cd changer.
1 JL Audio 300/2 amp.
1 JL Audio 300/4 amp.
2 JL Audio 500/1 amps.
2 JL Audio 10W7-3 subs.
4 MB Quart QSD 210 component sets.
2 MB Quart QSD 213 component sets.
He said he spendt over $8000 on it, is this true?
Well, he's asking $5100, is it a good deal?

$4500, installed?
Are you sure? I did some reserch, and the deck alone retails for something like $2500.

well, first, denon is one of the lower quality, main brand decks; so for 2500$, thats full retail, and thats assuming that 2500 is the real price.
And, the main thing u want to know when u spend that much money on a system, is what EXACTLY are u trying to acheive with car stereo.
i.e ( sound qaulity, installation beauty, ... BASS,..... multimedia.. , combo , etc)

The amps, components, and subs are pretty good. I cant really advise you on the deck and changer tho, as Denon products are fairly scarce around here. The only denon deck I ever saw was a tape deck I got with my 91 mazda a few yrs back. I havent even seen them for sale in a while. Anyways, IMO thats alot to spend on any setup, unless you are seriously thinking about getting into competition.
Otherwise you can definitly get a system that sounds great, but is cheaper than that. Again, im not sure of Denon decks, but it would have to be pretty frikkin amazing before id spend that much on a system.

DankiestStereo: You obviosly don't know what you are talking about, but if you think Denon makes low-quality stuff, it's fine by me.
Anyway, I bought the system today, and he is helping me installing it today. I'm probably going to build a fiberglass enclosure and amp-rack, but that has got to wait.

You sell stolen stuff?
Anyway, you know this because you are an authorized Denon dealership?
Have you ever heard a Denon deck?

no
i am authorized for US amps, authorized for pioneer, JVC, authorized for hifonics and crunch, authorized for EFX, authorized for hollywood sound labs, and authorized for MTX.
I do not sell stoeln equipment, i just dont charge full price like most people do, i dotn see that someon is going to spend 6000$ dollars, and ccharge them full retail (6000$) when i can sell them 8000$ or 9000$ worth of equipment for 6000$.
Denon does not even rrequire an authorized dealer to sell
i can get denon from distributors, to show you how good denon is
u might as well drop it, i was trying to help you out, but u just dotn get it and dotn know

The Denon DCT-1 is indeed a high quality deck that normally sells for around $2000. It is comparable in quality and design to the Nakamichi CD-700. I think the guy that is puttin down Denon is falling into the old salesman trap ...... "I sell all the good stuff, if I don't carry it - it's junk." Works on ignorant people, very bad to use on people that know better. I like to walk into a shop where people don't know me and listen to some of the B.S. they come up with, it's always useful for a good laugh.

haha
thats funny
i do sell denon
not authorized but do sell them
denon may have the dct that sells for 2000$
but with any company you spend 2000$ on a deck for, your going to have a deck that lasts longer, works better and is better
do you know what test default tracking is
no you dont
that is a test that is performed on cd players to see how well they track a scratched CD
well denon can track a 2000 micrometer track whereas Nackamichi, eclipse and JVC can track a 4000 micrometer track
thats just one thing
im done with this

What's the name of your shop?
PaulD
12-24-2002, 10:12 PM
I wouldn't work for any of the shops where I live. I don't have to work for a shop to know about the mathematics, physics and engineering side of stereo equipment. As a bonus, not working for a shop means I have no brand loyalties and I am not pushing products. As for product specs and the like, I can usually read thru the bull.
Concerning CD players and skipping, there is NO free lunch. There are high, med and low quality transports - within the group, you have to make trade-offs in the engineering between (physical) shock proof anti-skipping and ability to read thru scratches.

thats me if you are wondering
i dont work for anyone
i work for myself
i can get almost anything, becuase i have about 3 distributers, and am factory direct with several companies
i Also have a friend who has his own stereo business, and can fill in the gaps of the companies that i cant get
in that case, when someone wants somethign i cant get, i just get it from him
Being able to get almost all the main brands, and other brands that are Excellent qaulity but not popular, u realize that the main companies arent always the best
which is why i talk shit about certain companies
because i know of companies that are cheaper and sound better
at the same time i know of companies that are better and cost the same

same concept with the headunit. why buy a ferrari when you can buy a civic and make it run faster for cheaper? its not all about performance.

you're not a faggot for owning a headunit that is good as the rest of your system, rather for making an aweful statement as to whoever buy a $2000 headunit must be a dumbass. its not their fault for having the money to buy the headunit. say if you made over 6 digits per year. would you not want to buy high-end stuff? if you make say $500,000 a year, would it hurt you to spend $2000 on your headunit? that would leave you with $498,000 right? if so, is it the end of the world? would it be ok for me to call people dumbasses because they mod cars, even though we have speed limits that wont let us go faster, even if we had stock engines? nope, not at all. does it makes sense to spend $200 for an intake an only gain say 4whp? what about $1200 for i/h/e thats going to get you only 14 or so whp? now why would we want to spend that much money just to get so little power? because we want to extract all the power we can get right? now lets go back to the headunit. people are willing to spend that much money just to get a bit further. i can go on all day talking, but i don't really want to start any fights since i know i might lose a potential friend. :)

i'm not saying it makes more sense to buy a civic and mod it out instead of buying a ferrari. it's equally the same as the headunit theory.

my aunt makes $500,000 a year. :) she owns her own business doing medical billing for 3 major companies (won't mention who). how wouldn't she be making that much money for long? she spends her money wisely and thats why she bought that Denon deck. the quality is very high and isn't as flashy as alpine. she wanted something simple and not have to press 10+ buttons just to get to another screen.

my aunt has all the thing she needs already like her house, car, TV, etc.. why buy something else when you have it already? she doesn't need to take out loan. don't need loan when you can pay it off right away. please don't try to make it a fact saying "The 2000 dollar headunits are the people that take a load out and never pay it back" because i can name people right on top of my head that would prove your statement wrong.

my aunt makes $500,000 a year.
They Would Have Better Things To Spend Their Money On. The Only People Who Buy The 2000 dollar Head Units Are The People That Take A Loan Out And Never PayIt Back!!!
my aunt has all the thing she needs already like her house, car, TV, etc.. why buy something else when you have it already? she doesn't need to take out loan. don't need loan when you can pay it off right away. please don't try to make it a fact saying "The 2000 dollar headunits are the people that take a load out and never pay it back" because i can name people right on top of my head that would prove your statement wrong.
Im Gonna Make This My Last Post On This Thread!!! So Any Replys Will Be Read, But You Will Get No Reply.
