When my stepdad brought my car home after buying it he gave the car title to my mom to hold on to until he got the car finished (transmission was out, starter was out, battery dead and dented fender) and ready to drive. Well, he finally finished the car this morning and my mom called and asked if i'd seen the title to it so she could get tags for the car because she doesn't know where it is. So now since she can't find it we have to have the previous owner file for a lost title (or w/e it is that has to be done to get a new title). So can someone inform me of about how long this is going to take? I would kind of like to drive my car....SOON. Ive had it over a year now...:banghead:

The best thing to do is to contact your state's DMV and ask the time frame for receiving a duplicate title to replace a lost title. It can vary from state to state and also how busy they are depends on the time. Here in NY I've noticed it can take anywhere's from 10 days to 1 month to get a duplicate title. But like I said it can differ from state to state. You could possibly speed up the process by applying online, or have the former owner if that's required to do so, if your state's DMV is online,(and I believe most are by now.)

well the bad thing is, my car came from kentucky and my mom said she called and asked about a duplicate title but they told her that the former owner would have to do it. So now we have to get hold of the cars previous owner. I swear im so over this car...i finally get everything fixed and i still cant drive it because my mom cant keep up with the title!
