2000 Oil Sludge/Tranmission problems

In Jan '07 we went to Toyota about the oil sludge problem which they fortunately fixed at their expense (after we received notice of a class action in Nov '06). The ODO was around 102K.

Today (22 June '07) we put our Sienna in for a service and let them know that we recently experienced some jerking/and loss of power. We were told by the dealer that this is a transmission problem and we may need to spend $3600 to replace the transmission (ODO 104,304K). I have heard that Toyota put out an extended warranty for 8yrs/100K. Wouldn't you know it, we just missed the cut off point. Has anyone had any luck seeing if Toyota would go beyond 100K?

Here's an update. Although my 2000 Sienna XLE just missed out on the extended warranty with 104K on the ODO, Toyota did all they could to lessen the pain. The initial quote was $3,500, which they reduced to $2,100. In addition to this, their service and attitude were excellent. Beats buying a new car!

We had the same issues with our 2000 Sienna but ours occured around 60k. What I find interesting is that your engine sludge and transmission failure occured just a few months within the other. Toyota identified the sludge in our van before we knew there was a problem and then two months later the transmission failed. Toyota covered both but it seems too coincidental that both vans had the two problems occur within a short time of each other. After the transmission failure I started to think that maybe it was time to trade it in. I asked one of the service reps if he had seen any other major problems with this model besides the two we just had and he said no but then offered to buy it if I ever thought of selling it. I asked why, and his reply was that it was now practically a new car. We still have it and so far the only problem has been a broken hatch handle.
