Valve Cover Installation Maybe?

I remember reading somewhere here (but can't find it now) that when installing the valve cover there was a special way of doing it, right? Like you tighten all the bolts and then release some of them and then retighten everything again? Or was that some other part?

Also I need some suggestions....I was thinking about polishing my valve cover but should I shave everything off or leave some on still? I was thinking about shaving everything off but leaving the "Mitsubishi" on there so that I could get some spark plug covers from 3sx saying "3000GT." Or is that too much.... Hehe

Finally, besides 3sx, is there anyone else available that polishes parts over at 3si?

Thanks.

haha if you have the money for the spark plug cover and your engine bay is ready for show, go for it!!! i shaved my valve cover a few weeks ago since it was all flaky and just repainted it black for now...i just searched on 3si and found this guy who polishes (http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=378275&highlight=polishing) and im sure if you search around and just the vendors on 3si do polishing

Terry at Maximal Performance does powder coating in many different colors. he did my valve cover last year. i recall he charged $55 per valve cover + $45 core charge.

dhrubio, I checked out the link and brian_k03 chromes, not polish...interesting... He has a really good turn around time though--only 1 week. I'm interested but am debating which one is "better." Chroming's a lot more expensive though so maybe I'll go with polishing for now....but then again, it seems like there's a lot more work to keep the polished parts shiny looking then it is to keep the chrome one's shiny. AHH...the decisions that one needs to make...

At any rate, I looked through ALL the sponsors of 3si and it seems that only 3sx polishes. However, I did find this thread that looks pretty hopeful: http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=349929&highlight=polishing

So umm....anyone know the answer to my question about the valve cover installation? -_-

yea in the end it comes down to how much money you have, and how much of it your willing to spend hahaha the chrome looks better and lasts longer than the polishing but true, its more expensive....have fun deciding!!! :)

Okay, what would you guys do? Polish or chrome? For chroming, I'm kind of afraid of the chrome pealing. For polishing, I don't know how long it will last until it needs to be re-polished...so what would you guys do? I want shiny for a long time.

well personally my engine bay is nowhere near 'show' stage so i wouldnt do anything right now, so hopefully others will give your their opinions, but i would probably bet chroming is better for the long run which is what u want, so its better to make the investment now i guess...now, to find the best price, good luck! lol

Okay so after much debate, I've decided to go with polishing. I actually found a shop nearby that does polishing for motorcycles and he said that he usually doesn't do car parts but would do mine if I wanted--$300 for both the plenum and valve cover. The problem is that I'm pretty damn picky about the way my stuff will look and I took a look at some of his work and he didn't seem as detailed as I would hope he would be.

So yeah, I may end up just sending it to 3sx for the polishing job but I was wondering if anyone here has any pictures of 3sx's jobs? I know they have some on their website but if someone had actual jobs performed then could you post them? I want to see how detailed they really are and how shiny the plenum/valve cover would look...
