1998 Chevy Tahoe Steering Sensor

I need to replace the evo steering sensor that sits at the bottom of the steering shaft. There are two styles of assemblies that connect to the shaft. Mine has a locking bolt and nut that connects to the coupling and steering shaft assembly. Can anyone tell me if this assembly is supposed to slide forward to allow access to the speed sensor, or is there another procedure?
Update: the assembly does move forward. I was contacted by someone who completed the job on the same style assmebly and found the correct procedure
