Hi all, I am new to the forum. I recently bought a 94 Geo Metro, 2dr, 3 cyl. The engine runs great, but when the car is cold and I put in in drive to start off the transaxle will not shift in to 1st gear (it stays in third gear). After a while something seems to warm up and the trans axle begins to shift, and will continue to shift until the next day. I have attempted to read the codes from the Transaxle Control Module but when the problem is occuring, no codes will flash at all. But when the transaxle starts shifting, the codes will also start flashing (12) which is normal. I have more trouble shooting to do but I want to locate a TCM in case I need one. So far I have not found a source.
Does anyone know where I can get a TCM if I need it, and what the cost would be? Also any advice concerning this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

change the fluid and filter
Thanks for the reply, that was the first thing that I did. I thought that would fix the problem also. But no luck.
Thanks again

Fixed the problem!! :grinyes:
The single mounting screw in the Park/Neutral position (PNP) switch was too loose. I removed the PNP switch, adjusted, and re-torqued to specifications.
This solved the problem of:
Transaxle starting off in third gear in stead of first when gearshift is placed in drive.
Hard shifting into reverse from park.I don't really understand why this adjustment solved #2 but I'm glad it did.
Hope this helps someone else!

That's an odd symptom but if the loose PNP switch caused it move freely when the shift lever was moved and it was stuck halfway between the D and N position that could explain both symptoms. #2 is possible if the TCM detected an invalid condition and caused the shift solenoids to turn on. This would vent the fluid in the 1-2 and 2-3 shift circuits and open both shift valves possible just for a moment. This could cause the hard shift.
If the PNP switch had been stuck in say "D" position you would have not got any "R" at all as the TCM would have turn on both solenoids.
