Ok so I was driving home from work last week and the check engine light comes on. I hook up the scanner and find code 1345 crankshaft/camshaft pos senor correlation. I checked the data screen on scanner and data everything looks normal. Truck is running the same but the gas milage has drop about 2 miles per gal. I drive alot miles everyday to work so I noticed it. I checked the connections clean no corrosion. What is the fix to this ????? pulling my hair out.

1st thing is to check the timing in the cam retard or offset mode. This is base timing and takes the pcm out of the picture timing wise. If your scanner doesn't have this option you'll need to find one that does. Base timing should be 0 +/- 2 degs.
5 main things that can cause this code.
1. Loose CMP sensor (in the distributor).
2. Excess play in the timing chain.
3. Distributor 1 tooth off in either direction.
4. A loose rotor.
5. Loose dist hold down.

Just to add to the above list ( well done), the dist gear on the lower dist shaft also.

On the base timing is that at idle or a certin RPM? how do I change it if it is off just retard or advance the whole dist?
Can I tighting the Cam sensor?
Timing chain might be loose 235,000 miles.
Dis was never out and rotor is tight, so is the hold down.
Thanks for the help and time guys

RPM's should be at least 1000 to check timing. Rotate dist to set. Also check at 2000 to make sure there is no more than 2 deg variation. The CMP is where the wires plug into the dist. You should be able to check for loosness just by trying to wiggle it. 2 screws secure it below the rotor. Screws should be Lock-Tight coated.
If you're getting any fluctuation in idle speed it could also be the CKP (crank position sensor).

Ok on my scanner it has ING ADV.(DEGREES) is this what you are talking about? Mine at 1,000 RPM was -24 degrees. I don't think this is right.

You are way off.
Dist may be one notch off.
But turn the dist and see if you can bring it into -2 or as close to ) degrees a you can get it.
The engine speed will have be speeded up over 1000 rpm for the scanner to readjust reading after turning dist.
But turning dist does not set timing.
The timing is not adjustable.
If you can not bring the cam retard in you may have to reset the dist.

NO, timing you see is not it. I have an Autoxray 6000 and it will not check for cam retard. I had it done today by a local shop. My dist was removed when I did the intake manifold gasket. If yours dist has never been removed, may be a bad cam or crank sensor. They can be replaced without touching dist position. Did it all happen at once or has truck been running bad for awhile and just posted a code today. Diagnoise it a bit as parts are not cheap. Cam sensor cheaper than crank.

Ok is the ING ADV on my scanner the right one?? I have never had the dist out so I am 99% sure it not a tuth off. I t happened a while ago just sends the code and lost some gas mileage but runs fine. Before I mess with the dist I wanty to make sure that the scanner I have is right. I just says ING ADV not base timing.

Ing Adv is not what you are looking for. You want Cam Retard or Cam Dwell. From my research you need a $1000 and up type scanner to view this parameter. My 600.00 scanner does not do this.

It may even be called camshaft offset.
I used an Autoxray 6000 to check cam retard, it may have had the gm enhanced software

Jeremy, What year and model truck did you find this on? My 6000 has the enhanced s/w. AXRAY support told me their scanner does not check for cam retard. Help me out if you can.
Thanks,
Steve

The local repair shops in my area charge $35-$50 to hook up a scanner that can check "cam offset or cam retard" (base timing). Since your scanner doesn't seem to have this capability maybe it's time to spend the $$'s to at least check and/or eliminate a base timing issue. All the other things that can generate this P1345 code have been previously responded to. It just seems to me that you're trying to get your scanner to do what it's not capable of doing and causing yourself some unneeded grief??

You need to reset the dist.
Set the cam retard as close to - or + 0 degrees as you can get it.
If your scanner will not read cam retard you will need to find one that does to set it.
Any other codes?
